Jonathan Hicks
Surrounded by music from a young age, Jon's earliest musical experiences include playing brass instruments at the age of 7 with the Salvation Army church, and then starting drum lessons at the age of 9.
Jon graduated from MUN in 2015, with conjoint Bachelor of Music (percussion) and Bachelor of Music Education degrees. During his time at MUN, he played with The Scruncheons Percussion Ensemble and MUN Wind Ensemble. In 2022, he also graduated with his Masters of Education in Curriculum, Teaching, and Learning. Jon has been teaching drums and percussion to private students since 2011. He has also been asked to teach drums at music summer camps, including MUN Junior Band Camp and Salvation Army Music Camp. During the day, Jon works as a high school music teacher. He is currently teaching music and social studies at St. Michael's Regional High on Bell Island. When he isn’t teaching, Jon enjoys performing. He has performed with The Celtic Fiddlers as a bodhran player, percussionist, and singer, and had the opportunity to tour Ireland with them in August 2016. With his wife, Alyssa, he also performs in a duo called "Take Two," covering pop hits from the 1950s to present day. |
